The Fulbright Program is a prestigious and competitive exchange program between the United States and more than 160 countries, including Spain. Participants, selected for their academic and professional merits and leadership potential, have the opportunity to study, teach, or research in the host country. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Since 2017, the University of La Laguna has collaborated with the Fulbright Program in two initiatives: the 'Program for American experts in Spanish institutions', which facilitates research stays for Senior Specialists Americans, and the 'English Language Assistant Program', which allows the incorporation of American assistants to support the internationalization of the university community.
The assistant program, launched in the 2020/21 academic year, facilitated more than 50 classroom-based academic activities during the 2023/24 academic year, aimed at students from various faculties, representing an increase of 50% compared to the previous academic year. Weekly English conversation meetings open to the entire university community were also held on various campuses, and personalized tutoring continued at the writing center, with more than 40 appointments attended, also representing an increase in service to the community.

As Fulbright scholars, we will be at ULL during this 2024-25 academic year to share our knowledge of the English language and American culture with the entire university community.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=»2/3″][vc_column_text]Alexis Fintland, Cornell University – Bachelor's degree in Industrial and Labor Relations with a focus on Immigration, Latino/a Studies, and Law. Alexis is from Los Angeles, California. For the past two years, she worked as a policy researcher in Washington, DC, focusing on immigration policy. She also has experience working in the United States Congress. She is interested in international migration, immigration law, labor policy, and rights. She is excited to learn and collaborate with Cornell University professors on various topics.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width=»1/3″][vc_single_image image=»1077″][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=»1/3″][vc_single_image image=»1071″][/vc_column][vc_column width=»2/3″][vc_column_text]Maddy Hull, Dickinson College – Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Spanish. Maddy has a background in bioarchaeology, human evolution, museum education, foreign language learning, and the social sciences. From 2021 to 2024, she was a docent at the Trout Gallery, where she led guided tours for Spanish language learners. For the past two summers, she has supported the Koobi Fora Research Project, which researched human evolution as a research assistant in the Turkana Basin, Kenya. She is excited to be providing language support at ULL this year in the aforementioned areas and beyond![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=»2/3″][vc_column_text]Chelsea LeBron, Rutgers University & George Mason University – BA in English and Film with a minor in Visual Arts and an MFA in Creative Writing. Chelsea, from New Jersey, is a writer, professor, and ghost enthusiast. She was a Cheuse Center Travel Fellow in 2022, visiting South America to research cultural legends, and worked as the Incarcerated Writers Coordinator at the magazine Phoebe, providing writing feedback to individuals impacted by the prison system. Chelsea is interested in English literature, composition, creative writing and genre fiction, folklore, arts and culture, and applying for opportunities in creative fields.
