Blended Intensive Programs
(BIPs) of the STARS-EU alliance

The University of La Laguna is launching Combined Intensive Programs (BIPs) as part of the STARS EU Alliance initiatives. Participation in these programs will be coordinated through the call for applications for BIP-related mobility within the STARS EU Alliance.
Since STARS EU is a strategic and cross-cutting initiative of the ULL, BIPs will only be funded within the framework of the STARS EU Alliance. There are three ways to participate: as an individual teaching and research staff (PDI), as a group coordinator of a maximum of five students, and as a PTGAS (Teachers' and Research Staff).

What is a BIP?

These are short-term, intensive programs that utilize innovative learning and teaching methods, including online collaboration. Programs may include challenge-based learning, in which transnational and interdisciplinary teams collaborate to solve challenges, such as those linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals or other societal challenges identified by regions, cities, or businesses.
The intensive program must provide added value compared to existing courses or training offered by participating higher education institutions and can be multi-year. By allowing for new and more flexible mobility formats that combine physical mobility with a virtual component, combined intensive programs aim to reach all types of students, from any background, field of study, and academic level.

The higher education institutions participating in the Alliance will organize short-term blended intensive programs dedicated to the learning, teaching, and training of students and staff. During these blended intensive programs, groups of students or staff as learners will undertake short-term physical mobility abroad combined with a mandatory virtual component that facilitates online collaborative educational exchange and teamwork. The virtual component must bring participants together online to work collectively and simultaneously on specific tasks integrated into the blended intensive program, which count toward the overall learning outcomes.

Structure of a BIP

A BIP must be developed and implemented by at least three Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) belonging to the STARS EU Alliance.

All partners in the BIP partnership must be involved in the development and implementation of the program, and each partner must have a role in receiving or sending participants, unless they are merely coordinating.
