Internships in companies, organizations and institutions are mandatory in those master's degrees that have it established in their curriculum. They involve students getting closer to real situations, complementing the training received with the reality of the working world. Specifically, in the Master in General Health Psychology (MUPGS) external internships (Supervised Professional Internships) are mandatory, and their requirements are regulated by the order ECD/1070/2013 of June 12.
They constitute an activity of a formative nature, carried out by university students and supervised by universities, the objective of which is to allow students to apply and complement the knowledge acquired in their academic training, promoting the acquisition of skills that prepare them for the exercise of professional activities, facilitating their employability and fostering their entrepreneurial capacity.
Academic internships may be carried out in collaborating entities/companies, such as companies, institutions, public/private entities, etc.
According to the ministerial order ECD/1070/2013, the health centres or services in which the Master's external internships can be carried out must be authorised and registered as Health Centres in the corresponding Registers of health centres, services and establishments of the corresponding autonomous community. These health centres must have, in relation to their human resources, a minimum of two psychologists with a master's degree in General Health Psychology, a specialist in Clinical Psychology or temporarily registered psychologists to carry out health activities in accordance with the provisions of section 2 of Additional Provision 6 of Law 5/2011, of March 29, on the Social Economy.
For the development of external internships, the University of La Laguna maintains framework agreements with the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), with a specific addendum for the University Master's Degree in General Health Psychology, as well as with other centers and entities that allow the master's students to carry out their internships in Mental Health Units (USM) and in other services and entities in the province.
