Stage poetry comes to the Paraninfo of the ULL thanks to Roberto García de Mesa

Friday April 14, 2023 - 09:01 CEST

The Paraninfo of the University of La Laguna will host the performance poetry project 'Still Life on a White Background' tomorrow, Saturday, April 15, from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., written and directed by Roberto García de Mesa, which seeks to explore two concepts that are fashionable in contemporary society: disturbance and bewilderment.

The work contains three pieces that explore the two concepts mentioned above. The first, which gives the entire collection its title, 'Still Life on a White Background', was written in 2007 and published in 2010 alongside other works by Roberto García de Mesa. In it, two journalists discuss a terrorist attack carried out by Islamic extremists in a public square, where all those killed in the attack witness the dialogue, the movements, and the horror.

On the other hand, 'Segismundo Always Strikes First' was written in 2011 and published in 2020 along with seven other pieces by the same author. The work is a very free and wild adaptation of Pedro Calderón de la Barca's 'Life Is a Dream'. Finally, 'Variations on Reason' was written in 2011 and also published in 2020, in the aforementioned volume. It is divided into eight parts, in which various performers engage in dialogue about poetry, revolution, discipline, time, space, mysticism, desire, and consciousness.

Roberto García de Mesa was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on November 26, 1973, and holds a doctorate in Hispanic Philology from the University of La Laguna. He has published over 60 books, is featured in several anthologies of Spanish literature, and has participated in various international poetry and theater conferences. He is also a member of the Institute of Canarian Studies and an academician of the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts. In 2015, he founded his own theater company.

The tickets They can be purchased on the Tomaticket website at a general price of 10 euros, while for students the cost is 8 euros.
