It is common for the Canary Flora Garden The Central Campus of the University of La Laguna will receive visits from various groups and will host activities to raise awareness about environmental care. Thus, this Friday, October 27th, it will host the culmination of a course for teaching staff from public Vocational Training centers in the Agricultural Professional Family, entitled “Use of Native Canary Island Flora in Educational Gardening.”.
This is a thirty-hour training course provided by the Government of the Canary Islands Education Department and the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training through the European Social Fund.
At this event, Borja Arizón González, from the Parks and Gardens Department of the university center and a member of the institution's Cultural Classroom for Gardening, Biodiversity, and Permaculture, will lead a guided tour of the educational garden featuring native species of Tenerife. He will also demonstrate to participants the vermicomposting system, which uses earthworms to help close the organic matter cycle. This project, part of the San Fernando Residence Hall's waste recovery initiative, focuses on the vermicomposting system.
The visit will include an opportunity to observe the planting of seed bombs in the bird garden plot, the preparation of substrates for seedbeds of Canary Island flora, and the broadcast sowing of Canary Island species in the plot near the main fountain. The course will conclude with an open-air round table discussion with all the speakers in the park itself.
