To commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, declared by the United Nations in 1977, the governing body of the University of La Laguna has issued a statement which reads as follows:
«"We condemn the escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip, which has caused the deaths of thousands of people and triggered a new humanitarian crisis. We unequivocally reject actions that affect civilians and violate the basic principles of humanity, justice, and international law, and we express our solidarity with the victims and their families.".
As a university, we reaffirm our commitment to peace, justice, human rights and democratic values, opposing any war or terrorist act, and reiterate our commitment to dialogue and negotiation as the only way to resolve this and all conflicts.
We demand an immediate end to all acts of war and violence, an end to the punishment of the civilian population, the release of hostages, the continued flow of humanitarian aid, and the pursuit of a peaceful solution to the conflict that respects the rights of all parties involved. Violence is absolutely incompatible with the academic and scientific spirit of university institutions, which must remain spaces of peace and cooperation.
