The Fyde CajaCanarias Foundation will present the book "Housing in the Canary Islands: Situation, Perspectives, and Proposals" on Friday, January 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the CajaCanarias Cultural Center in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This publication, developed by the Economic and Social Studies Department of the Fyde CajaCanarias Foundation within the framework of a research agreement signed with the University of La Laguna and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has allowed for a comprehensive and multifaceted approach to the housing situation in the Canary Islands.

This collective work —directed by researcher Juan Manuel Parreño Castellano, Professor of Geography at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and researcher, Alejandro Armas Díaz, — , assistant professor doctor of the Department of Geography and History of the University of La Laguna— brings together the proposals of thirty-five authors from various areas of knowledge from seven universities and three other public and private institutions.

The event will feature Araceli Reymundo Izard, Vice President of the CajaCanarias Foundation; Francisco García Rodríguez, Rector of the University of La Laguna; and Inmaculada González Cabrera, Secretary General of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, for the institutional presentation. Also present will be Juan Manuel Parreño and Alejandro Armas, editors of the book, and Jesús González Pérez, Josefina Domínguez Mujica, and David Ramos Pérez, the book's authors, who will present the publication's contents.

A subsequent dialogue table will also take place on challenges and opportunities in housing in the Canary Islands, with the participation of: Sofía Hernández González, Island Councillor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing of the Tenerife Island Council, Santiago Hernández Torres, technician of the Urban Planning Service of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, Sara Jacinto Rodríguez, head of the Urban Planning and Management Service of the Municipal Urban Planning Management of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and María Tomé Nuez, partner and co-founder of the Civic Innovation Office, S. Cooperative.

This book aims to provide a framework for analysis, reflection, and proposals on housing in the Canary Islands, with the purpose of contributing to a constructive debate, with extensive information on its situation and prospects, seeking to motivate actions that help build a better future for the Canary Islands.

This is not a typical academic work, but rather a series of short chapters, both theoretical and synthetic, as well as empirical, that include proposals for action. The contributions cover different temporal and territorial frameworks, ranging from case studies to comprehensive analyses of the entire archipelago.

The event will also be streamed live via the following link.
