The University of La Laguna and the Tenerife Island Council have launched the Digital Transformation Observatory, an initiative within the Tenerife Isla Solidaria program that will bring together best practice resources for use by volunteer organizations on the island. The agreement was signed today, Monday, January 27, by the Rector of the academic institution, Francisco García, and the Island Council's Councilor for Social Action, Águeda Fumero, and Councilor for Innovation, Research and Development, Juan José Martínez. It will be implemented through the Island Society for the Promotion of People with Disabilities (Sinpromi), the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies (ITER), and the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna (FGULL). Also present at the signing were the CEOs of Sinpromi and ITER, Adal García and Begoña Ortiz, respectively.
The rector, Francisco García, He explained that the University and its General Foundation will provide the research team that will carry out the activities and will provide the computer equipment and software necessary for the processing and analysis of the information obtained.
Águeda Fumero explained that one of the key aspects of the Tenerife Isla Solidaria program is Digital Transformation. Among the initiatives within this area, the creation of the Digital Transformation Observatory stands out—a resource that will be available to all volunteer organizations. "To this end, we will contribute €25,000 from Sinpromi and will have the collaboration of ITER and the University of La Laguna for its development.".
For his part, Juan José Martínez indicates that ITER has been heavily involved in collaborative projects with Sinpromi on the use of ICT to improve the quality of life in society. One pilot project was the development of technological tools to support Third Sector organizations, called the 'Online Volunteering Program,' which has continued over time in order to plan and design the Digital Transformation of Volunteering program for the island of Tenerife.
