Raúl Antonio Jerónimo Valladares, a graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of La Laguna, has obtained the highest score in the competitive examinations to enter the judicial career after having passed the first phase of the selection process last November.
The alumnus of this academic institution joined the Judicial School in Barcelona at the beginning of the year, where he will be preparing for his future as a judge until November. Once he completes this training, he will have to undertake his practical training before taking up his permanent post. This native of Tenerife is very clear that he wants to return to the island as soon as possible and complete his practical training there. Furthermore, he would like to be able to choose his first posting on the island.
Raúl Jerónimo completed his law studies in 2021 and in just three years has not only passed one of the most difficult competitive exams in the country, but has also achieved the highest score, 91 out of 100. “I passed the first exam in February 2024, which is a multiple-choice test, then in July I had the first oral exam, in which I obtained the highest score among all the candidates. My challenge was to pass the second one; I didn't imagine I could get such a good result,” he says.
The aspiring judge asserts that his university studies were the foundation for his success in passing these competitive exams. “Without the prior work at university, I wouldn't have achieved this. The curriculum taught in La Laguna for Procedural, Criminal, and Civil Law is the core curriculum for the exam,” he states.
Among his law professors, Raúl Jerónimo wanted to highlight José Ulises Hernández, Professor of Criminal Law Aurelio Santana Rodríguez, Professor of History of Law and Institutions, who influenced his studies and with whom he was able to seek advice on his professional future.
This is not the first time a student from the Faculty of Law has obtained this position, since five years ago student Nicole Centanaro also obtained first place in the judiciary competitions, and currently occupies the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 1 of La Orotava.
