Next Monday, February 17th, at 11:00 a.m., the bibliographic, documentary, and photographic exhibition "Water and Life in the Past, Present, and Future of Tenerife" will open at the General and Humanities Library of the University of La Laguna. The exhibition highlights the island's groundwater resources and pays tribute to the people who, in one way or another, provide us with this valuable natural resource. It is curated by Professors José Antonio Batista Medina and Noelia García Rodríguez.
The opening ceremony will be attended by Francisco García, rector of this academic institution; Blanca Delia Pérez, councilor of the Tenerife Island Council; Isabel K. León, vice-rector of Culture and University Extension; and Domingo Pérez, from the Tenerife Island Water Authority. At 12:15 p.m., Juan José Braojos Ruiz will give a lecture entitled "Past, Present, and Future of Groundwater in Tenerife.".
The exhibition aims to reflect on the past, present, and future of groundwater, using photographs, books, documents, videos, and artifacts. The vast majority of the publications are from the General and Humanities Library collection, supplemented by some loaned by the Tenerife Island Water Council and several documents provided by the Tenerife Island Water Chamber. The contemporary photographs were taken by Jean-Marc Deschamps and members of the aforementioned Tenerife Island Water Council.
