The tenured professor Carmen Inés Ruiz de la Rosa She took office today, June 4th, as dean of the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism of the University of La Laguna, in an event presided over by the rector of the academic center, Francisco García.
She will be accompanied in the deanship by Pilar Pérez Gómez, as vice-dean of Academic Organization and Equality; Jano Jiménez Barreto, vice-dean of International Relations and Mobility; Concepción Mª Ángeles Pérez Hernández, vice-dean of Degree Accreditation; Mª Luisa Arriaga Estévez, vice-dean of Academic Design and Development; Tamara González González, vice-dean of Students and Employability; Ángel Chinea Martín, vice-dean of Academic Support and Infrastructure; David Padrón Marrero, vice-dean of Relations with Society, Sustainability and Research; and finally, Violeta de Vera Martín, secretary of the center.
During the inauguration ceremony, the dean expressed her gratitude for the positive attitude of the outgoing team, led by José Adrián García Rojas, who facilitated the transition to the new head of the center. Ruiz de la Rosa has two very clear objectives: to foster a sense of belonging to the center and the institution itself, and to update the catalog of degrees offered by the faculty, adapting it, she said, to the changing times and job market demands.
She emphasized that student involvement is key to the faculty's future, and in fact, one of her first planned meetings was with the student delegation. The dean maintained that the faculty has much to contribute, a point echoed by the rector, who affirmed that it is the university's flagship institution, given its strong ties to the business sector, its close collaboration with professional associations, and its deep commitment to the social economy.
For his part, the rector expressed his gratitude for the new team's involvement in leading the center, at a time when the incentives to participate in management are far less compelling than those to pursue a research career. Francisco García stated that exercising university autonomy requires involvement in leadership and management tasks.
