The University of La Laguna held this week the closing ceremony of the sixth season of the audiovisual series All with Cienci@ULL, belonging to the educational and outreach project Chicas con Cienci@ULL. The project's main objective is to prevent biases and attitudes that promote sexist behavior among young people, especially among 3rd and 4th year ESO students and 1st year Bachillerato students in the Canary Islands, by highlighting and valuing the work of female researchers at the ULL in all fields of knowledge.

The event took place in the Blas Cabrera Felipe Auditorium at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics and brought together the researchers featured in the last season, along with the participants of the upcoming seventh edition. During the ceremony, diplomas and gifts were presented to the researchers who participated in the last season, in recognition of their involvement in this initiative.

The event was attended by the Vice-Rector for Research and Transfer of the ULL, Antonio Aparicio; the Managing Director of the General Foundation of the ULL, Julio Antonio Brito; the coordinator of the Aliadas Program of the General Directorate of Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mónica González; and the scientific director of the project, Elena Pastor.

“Actions like these are fundamental and we must continue working very hard to give visibility to women in research in order to achieve true equality in this field,” acknowledged the Vice-Rector for Research and Transfer.

Julio Brito emphasized that all the researchers are role models for the University, society, and future generations, who, thanks to these educational videos, can learn about these female role models in various research fields. Following this line of thought, researcher and scientific director Elena Pastor, who participated in the first season of the series, underlined that "since the videos began, I've received inquiries from schools and students interested in learning about the lives of female researchers," and stressed that this outreach is an effective way to promote these women researchers among young people in the Canary Islands.

The coordinator of the Aliadas Program concluded that the General Directorate of Youth will continue to contribute to making women more visible in research, and that, within the State Pact against Gender Violence, these initiatives manage to "prevent violence and break this glass ceiling, so that young women have a role model to look to when choosing research careers.".

Two participants from this sixth season also spoke at the event. First, Paula Hernández Dionis, Professor of Didactics of Musical Expression at the University of La Laguna (ULL), emphasized that “scientific knowledge transfer is also achieved through important outreach projects such as Chicas con Cienci@ULL.” Second, Silvana Radescu Cioranescu, Professor in the Physics Department at ULL, addressed the lack of female representation in research groups, and how projects like this one provide an opportunity to raise the profile of women and pave the way for future generations.

The series, organized by the ULL, through its Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (Cienci@ULL), has featured in its 6th season the participation of 20 researchers from different disciplines grouped into five areas of knowledge (Biomedicine and Health; Science and Technology; Energy, Biodiversity and Environment; Science and Society; and Art and Humanities).

The seventh season, which will air during the 2026-2027 academic year, has already confirmed its 20 new lead actresses. They are Paula Leticia Tejera, Susana Abdala, María Reyes, Nieves Luisa González, María Teresa Herrera, Elena Rocafull, María del Pilar Martín, Idaira Pacheco, Priscilla Rocío, Águeda María González, Ana María Estévez, María Soledad Pérez, Sara Rodríguez, Adriana de Lorenzo-Cáceres, Rebeca Villarroel, Esperanza Ceballo, Carmen Nieves Pérez, Tatiana David, Gloria Esther Cabrera, María Inmaculada González, Milena Trenta, and Rut Cavero.

Todas con Cienci@ULL was launched in the 2020-2021 academic year as supplementary material for the Chicas con Cienci@ULL educational project. Over its six seasons, the series has produced a total of 140 episodes, accumulating more than 100,000 views on the Cienci@ULL YouTube channel. Each episode presents, in a friendly and accessible style, the story of a female researcher about her childhood, her scientific vocation, her current work, and an inspiring message for young women in the Canary Islands.

This project has the financial backing of the General Directorate of Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands and Cajasiete and is part of the action program of the State Pact against Gender Violence since 2022.
