Wednesday June 10, 2026 - 12:09 CEST

The Inter-university Chair of Commerce ULL and ULPGC, The Hackathon Impulso Comercio Canarias, promoted by the University of La Laguna and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and financed by the Government of the Canary Islands through its Vice Presidency and the General Directorate of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, is organizing the Hackathon Impulso Comercio Canarias, a collaborative work day aimed at activating new ideas and solutions to strengthen local commerce in the archipelago.

The event will take place on June 18th at Talleres Palermo, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and will bring together university and vocational training students, entrepreneurs and professionals linked to the commercial sector to enjoy a day where they will work as a team to respond to real challenges related to competitiveness, innovation, local identity and the future of Canary Island commerce.

The initiative is part of the objectives of the ULL and ULPGC Interuniversity Chair of Commerce, conceived as a collaborative instrument to improve knowledge of the commercial sector, promote training, encourage research studies and publicize the role of commerce as an activity that generates value, employment and socio-economic development.

The Canary Islands Business Development Hackathon presents two major challenges: how to get young people to see local businesses as a viable career path, and how to innovate in Canarian commerce without losing its personal touch, authenticity, and local identity. Based on these challenges, participating teams will develop practical proposals that contribute to rethinking the role of commerce in neighborhoods, municipalities, and commercial areas throughout the archipelago.

The selected ideas will be eligible for three Support Grants linked to the mentoring process and the final Demo Day, which will be held in October. In this way, the Hackathon is not limited to a day of idea generation, but also seeks to foster the development of the most promising proposals so they can continue to evolve and connect with stakeholders in the commercial, academic, and institutional ecosystems.

Furthermore, with the aim of facilitating the participation of people from other islands, the organization will cover inter-island transport within the Canary Islands for those who request it during the process. registration, subject to the conditions established by the organization.

With this initiative, the ULL and ULPGC Inter-University Chair of Commerce reinforces its commitment to active collaboration, constant innovation, connection with the realities of the sector, and the dissemination of knowledge.
