The headquarters of the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands hosted last week the 'First Chat' of the Spaces for Change initiative, a meeting for listening, reflection and intergenerational dialogue around the construction of a more sustainable Canary archipelago.
‘'Chats for Change' aims to foster constructive dialogue among different sectors of society to promote awareness and action regarding the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Dimensions of the Canary Islands 2030 Agenda. This first meeting focused on the five SDGs integrated into the People Dimension: No Poverty (SDG 1), Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Gender Equality (SDG 5). Each goal had its own discussion and dialogue panel, composed of various social actors from diverse fields (public administrations, the third sector, universities, businesses, students from different educational levels, and the general public).
The opening of this event was led by the Vice-Rector for Digital Transformation of the University of La Laguna, Vicente Blanco Pérez, and the Director General of Transparency and Citizen Participation of the Government of the Canary Islands, Carmen Delia Alberto Pérez. The director of the Social Innovation Lab Mónica Dios Rodríguez, from the University of La Laguna and promoter of the event, highlighted the importance of the times: “It is time to take action to achieve economic, environmental and social sustainability together in the Canary Islands.”.
It should be noted that culture was also present during this event, thanks to the report by Damián Ramos and the artist Carla León, who accompanied primary school children from various educational centers in the design of a work of art about the People Dimension.
The Social Innovation Laboratory of the University of La Laguna thanks all the people and more than fifteen organizations that in one way or another made the 'First Chat for Change' possible, and encourages them to continue working for the social and environmental transformation of the Canary Islands.
