The Department of Computer and Systems Engineering at the University of La Laguna recently presented its new drone equipment and accessories at the Higher School of Engineering and Technology. The purchase was made possible through the university's Microcredits Plan, which funded the materials used in the STS drone piloting training course held in May.
The equipment includes the DJI Dock 3 autonomous station and the DJI Matrice 4TD unit. This system allows for hosting and managing different versions of DJI drones, connecting in real time to enable remote control from anywhere in the world. It is the first equipment of its kind in the Canary Islands, placing the university center at the forefront of UAS resources.
The acquisition was made possible thanks to the Center for Continuing Education, the Vice-Rectorate for Teaching, and the administrative management of the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna. The event was attended by the Vice-Rector for Teaching, José Manuel García Fraga, as well as representatives from the Acuropol association, an active collaborator in the micro-credentials program and University Extension courses on drones since 2021.
During the event, attendees learned about the equipment's operation, its applications in teaching and research, and witnessed an indoor flight demonstration. The public also had the opportunity to ask questions about the system's uses in areas such as precision agriculture, infrastructure maintenance, surveillance, search and rescue, and surveying.
