The Chair

The idea of creating a chair aimed at care and service for the elderly It arises from the increase in the elderly population and longevity, but especially from the need to offer services and benefits in a life cycle that begins at sixty years old and which includes a variety of very diverse life situations: employment and guidance, housing, health services, and support; but especially the “ethics of care” and the inclusion of the “gender perspective” in actions such as helping with unwanted loneliness, building friendships and companionship, eliminating and helping in cases of violence, including gender violence.

It is important that both the families of older adults and their caregivers learn to avoid the subtle and not-so-gentle forms of violence perpetrated against them. Finally, there is a need for technological assistance to access various public and private services. We also cannot forget the importance of health and legal advice.

The Chair's work plan, as outlined below, includes the areas of training, research, and knowledge transfer. The aim is to expand activities and cooperation both within the Canary Islands and throughout Spain, as well as internationally.
