DemULL

The Medical Students' Delegation of the University of La Laguna is the most legitimate and sovereign body representing medical students both within and outside the university.

Basically, our mission is none other than to safeguard the rights of students, and to try to improve their stay here both culturally, academically, and in terms of enriching university life, from the first day of class until they graduate as Medical Graduates.

It's made up of students who are trying to make the University run more smoothly, who believe it's worthwhile to dedicate a little effort to try and make life here more bearable. We know that studying Medicine is already very difficult, so creating a relaxed and generally positive atmosphere is essential to avoid "going crazy.".

The variety of activities we promote at demULL is very interesting:

PhotologyEvery year since 2008, we have held a photography competition. All the images are displayed throughout the Faculty, primarily in the Cafeteria and CECS. In addition, for photography enthusiasts, the innovative prizes range from cash awards to photography courses.

Activities Committee: A newly inaugurated section within the delegation that will be responsible for organizing everything from medical skills workshops, such as Training Days, to the occasional Ping Pong or foosball tournament.

Health Sciences Student Congress (CECS): The Health Sciences Student Congress (CECS) is one of the Delegation's flagship projects, providing a platform for the largest number of students to meet. Participants can also enjoy practical skills workshops, roundtables on current and interesting topics related to health and medical practice, as well as talks on cooperation, diseases, and other related subjects. This project is open to any student or anyone interested in training.

Don't miss this great opportunity and experience the magic of the Congress!

CEEM (State Council of Medical Students): By being part of demULL, we automatically become members of a national representative body, the CEEM (State Council of Medical Students). Two JEEM (State Conferences of Medical Students) are held every year, in Madrid, Salamanca, Murcia… basically, wherever it's convenient.

In addition to many more sporting events (CEEMCup, whose second edition was organized by us), training events and integration of newcomers.

From the Faculty we send the members of demULL who have shown the most activity and initiative.

Other activities:

Training Days, which consist of a weekend get-together where, with the help of local and mainland trainers, the development of representative and personal skills is sought in a totally innovative way.

Mass order of stethoscopes to get them up to 20% cheaper.

Really, as you've probably already realized, demULL "is all of us." The more actively we participate, the easier and more productive the time we dedicate to all these activities will be, and the better our coexistence will be in this, our second home. You can contact us through Facebook (Demull), Twitter (@dem_ull). In addition, our website Demull.es will be launched during the 2016-17 academic year.

You can also find us at our office located in the CECS (entrance through the parking lots).

Access our space in the Virtual Campus under the password: "DEMULL" (Capital Letter). From here we will inform you of all the activities we carry out.

AEMTE

We are a group of students from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of La Laguna who have come together to form the Tenerife Medical Students Association (AEMTE/IFMSA-Tenerife). AEMTE is the local committee representing IFMSA-Spain, the Spanish Federation of Medical Students' Associations for International Cooperation, on our island. It is a non-partisan and non-religious NGO that is part of IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students' Associations), which represents one of the largest student organizations in the world. Founded in Copenhagen in 1951, it aims to promote cooperation among medical students at the global, regional, and local levels.

Currently, IFMSA comprises medical student associations from over 90 countries worldwide. Any medical student at a member faculty can participate in its activities, meaning that IFMSA represents approximately 610,000 medical students from some 550 medical schools in 94 countries.

Our Association is divided into several working groups:

  • SCOME: Working Group on Medical Education.
  • SCOPH: Public Health Working Group.
  • SCORP: Working Group on Human Rights and Peace.
  • SCORSA: Working Group on Reproductive Health, Sexuality and AIDS.
  • SCOPE: Clinical Exchange Working Group.
  • SCORE: Research Exchange Working Group.
  • SCONE: National Exchanges Working Group.

We carry out different awareness-raising and volunteering activities within the social context we find ourselves in in Tenerife, we promote talks, debates, we hold flea markets, we carry out health prevention campaigns, etc.

We promote our own activities and collaborate with other associations and NGOs such as Doctors of the World, the Red Cross, Ámate, Invisibles ULL, etc. Our aim is to provide students in our Faculty with the opportunity to participate in volunteer work, carry out cooperation projects focused on both healthcare and local and global human development, and perform top-level socio-health work. We seek to fill an existing gap among our students by familiarizing them with the truly human aspects of the medical profession.

We offer exchange scholarships for clinical or research placements, both nationally and internationally, for a one-month period during the summer to our members, using a points system based on participation in various activities. We also host students from other universities for internships during the same summer period.

You can visit our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/aemteifmsa) to find out about all our activities and participate in them. If you want to learn more about IFMSA-Spain, you can visit our website: ifmsa-spain.org/wordpress.
