The wallflower, endemic to Macaronesia, is a shrubby plant, densely branched from the base and reaching up to 1 meter in height, belonging to the cabbage family. This family is characterized by having four petals arranged in a cross, hence its other name, Cruciferae or Brassicaceae. Its young branches are fragile and, without water, tend to dry out in summer, only to sprout again with the first autumn rains. Its light green leaves are narrowly lanceolate and have radiating hairs with 3 to 5 arms. Its flowers have petals ranging in color from white to violet. These are clustered at the ends of the branches.
