A tree in the wild olive and olive family, which can reach 12 meters in height under ideal conditions. Its trunk has a light gray bark, which gives it its common name. It is easily recognizable by its opposite leaves, meaning they grow in pairs facing each other at each node. These leaves are tough, broadly lanceolate, with smooth, slightly rolled edges, and turn dark green in shady areas and light green in sunnier exposure. Its flowers are small, white, and inconspicuous. Its fruits, similar to olives, turn dark brown to black when ripe, with a bluish-gray bloom on their surface.
