The doctoral program follows the Official Doctoral Studies Regulations of the ULL, which in Chapter III, Articles 23 to 32, refers to the presentation and defense of doctoral theses, in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree 99/2011. In this regard, it regulates the prerequisites that the research project must meet, the proposal and appointment of external evaluators, the thesis evaluation committee, the thesis defense, the different possible distinctions, joint supervision, and the thesis modality by compilation of publications.

Each doctoral thesis may be defended at either the University of La Laguna or the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, following the specific regulations of each university for the defense and reading of the thesis, as well as for the constitution of the tribunals.
