Training activities
Research Seminars
Number of hours: 20 hours
Description:
Language in which it will be taught: Spanish or English
Duration of activity: Minimum participation in 20-hour research seminars throughout the doctoral training period (three or five years, depending on whether the student is full-time or part-time).
Justification of the activity (skills to be acquired by students): To train for scientific research by developing specific skills applied when assuming different roles within the seminar or conference: – Ability to synthesize new and complex ideas that produce a deeper knowledge of the research context in which they work. CM3 – Systematic understanding of a field of study and mastery of the research skills and methods related to that field. CB11 – Ability to perform a critical analysis and evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas. CB14
Learning outcomes: Formulate questions, express opinions and contrast value judgments regarding research results obtained by other researchers. Express written conclusions related to the dissertations attended.
Contents: Participation in seminars and/or conferences organised by the PhD student's own research groups or teams, by other research groups, by a department or centre, by the Doctoral School, etc., in which external and internal guest researchers give lectures. For each seminar or conference, structured analysis and synthesis exercises will be scheduled, which students will develop in groups or discussion forums or collect individually in a report for each seminar to reinforce their critical and written expression skills.
Planning. Temporary organization of the activity for full-time or part-time students: Activities of this type will be scheduled in such a way that each student can organize themselves to have a sufficient number of attendees after three or five years.
Planning. Human resources for its development: All the researchers participating in the programme and their national or international collaborators in research networks or projects are available to carry out this training activity. In addition, the researchers in training in this doctoral programme will be able to attend other seminars and/or conferences of interest related to the area of study of their line of research, held at the University itself or at other Universities or Research centres.
Planning. Material resources for its development: The University has the appropriate material and technological resources for carrying out these activities in its facilities.
Observations: This activity is mandatory
Adaptation procedure: Student attendance at these activities will be monitored, their participation in the discussion forums established will be assessed, and any written reports they may prepare on these seminars will be reviewed.
Mobility:
Language of instruction: Spanish/English/Language of host country
Duration of activity: More than one month and less than six.
Justification of the activity (skills to be acquired by the student): To promote multidisciplinary integration and internationalisation not only of each of the doctoral students who take part in the mobility programmes, but also of the doctoral programme itself. The specific skills to be acquired through the mobility activities will coincide with those described for training activities 3, 4 and 6, in which the mobility grants and activities will be applied.
Learning outcomes: Demonstrate the ability to integrate and work in other groups. Exchange knowledge and research results. Express oneself in another language.
Contents: The mobility activities are aimed at promoting the exchange and mobility of students in the Doctoral Program in Logic and Philosophy of Science through the mobility programs and grants that may be established or to which the students may attend, which allow them to carry out some of the training activities designed in this program. Specifically, the following are intended: (1) To promote the attendance and participation of doctoral students enrolled in the program in training activities that are developed in other national or foreign universities or research centers, which are related to the lines of research included in the doctoral program and may be of interest to researchers in training. (2) Facilitate the completion of stays of more than one month and not more than six (except in those cases where there is a prior agreement to carry out part of the Thesis at the host research centre) in foreign research centres of recognised prestige, carrying out research work that is relevant to their doctoral training and the development of the doctoral thesis and allows enriching the lines of research of the different research groups integrated in the programme.
Planning: Temporary organization of the activity for full-time or part-time students: The Academic Commission will promote that all doctoral students in the program can carry out at least one
of each of the training activities that require mobility grants, specifically: (1) In collaboration with the tutor and/or director of each doctoral student, he/she will facilitate their attendance, from the second year until the end of their doctoral training period, to a scientific conference or meeting, as well as to courses that may be of interest for their training. (2) He/she will keep updated the information on existing collaborations between the Doctoral Program and other research groups that cover the different research lines of the program and the specific training interests of each doctoral student and make it possible for all of them to opt for a stay throughout their doctoral training period. (3) The assignment of the exchanges and mobility activities in each case will be made in the order of request to the Academic Committee, one per student in each of the possible modalities: attendance at conferences and presentation of communications, attendance at courses and research stays. (4) The temporary organisation of mobility for each student will be proposed by agreement between the doctoral student and his/her tutor and/or thesis director. When it comes to programming a research stay, the programming must be reflected in a mobility plan related to the research plan in which the objectives, duration, research centre and the researcher responsible for said centre are specified. (5) In all cases, the Academic Committee will evaluate the mobility proposal of each doctoral student, within his/her plan of activities and will decide on its approval with or without modifications.
Planning: Human resources for its development: The inter-university nature of the programme provides a natural framework that guarantees student mobility between the different participating universities, so that this training activity does not require specific human resources other than those of the Programme itself. In addition, the CAPD will promote the signing of new mobility agreements for PhD students and teaching staff with other entities and institutions. These agreements will generally be formalised once the activity of the PhD programme begins. Likewise, there are other ways that promote these mobility actions, such as agreements between different research groups, mobility programmes subsidised by public or private entities, such as those of the Ministry of Education within the call for Mention towards Excellence, European/International Mention, or any other included in the Framework Programme of the European Union.
Planning. Material resources for its development: As mobility grants intended to promote training activities of types 3 and 4, there are two programs of the Vice-Rectorate for Research of the University of Salamanca, managed through the Research Management Agency. The rest of the universities also have research support services: University of La Laguna, University of A Coruña, University of Santiago de Compostela, University of Valladolid, Universitat de València (a) Mobility of Research Personnel and (b) Dissemination of Results. In addition, all research groups allocate part of their project budget to partially finance the attendance of researchers at scientific conferences and meetings, where they communicate and present their results. In order to encourage doctoral students to undertake at least one stay during their doctoral training period, the Doctoral Programme will participate in calls for mention towards excellence or other international, national or regional calls that contemplate and facilitate the subsequent participation of doctoral students in calls for mobility grants.
Evaluation and control procedure: Mobility will not imply an evaluation or control different from that established in each of the activities that require it.
Observations: This activity is voluntary.
Meetings to present research results
Number of hours: 12 hours
Description:
Language of instruction: Spanish or English
Duration of the activity: 12 hours per year from the second year of the PhD or 6 hours per year in the case of part-time students.
Justification of the activity (skills to be acquired by students): Ability to conceive, design or create, implement and adopt a substantial research or creation process. CB12 – Design, create, develop and undertake novel and innovative projects in their field of knowledge. CA03 – Ability to prepare material resulting from one's own research and disseminate its results. CM4 – Ability to acquire advanced knowledge in the fields of logic and philosophy of language, science and technology. CM1
Learning outcomes: Being able to discuss and exchange experiences and results and to express oral conclusions related to the research carried out by him/herself or by other members of the group.
Contents: Participation in periodic meetings to present and discuss research results, propose new working hypotheses and design experiments where appropriate.
Planning. Temporary organization of the activity for full-time or part-time students: The doctoral student will be asked to present to the other participants in this activity, at least on two occasions starting from the second year of being enrolled in the doctoral program, the progress of his/her research and an advance of the results he/she is obtaining.
Planning: Human resources for its development: For the realization of this training activity, the participation of researchers and students of the doctoral program is required, and the assistance of the thesis director or tutor is recommended. In any case, this activity will have the participation of at least 4 professors from the program staff.
Planning Material resources for its development: The University has the appropriate material and technological resources for carrying out these activities in its facilities.
Observations: This activity is mandatory.
Control procedure: The director, or where appropriate, the tutor, will monitor the students' attendance and assess their participation in it.

Methodological, specialized or practical training courses
Number of hours: 36 hours
Description
Language of instruction: Spanish or English
Duration of the activity: 36 hours between in-person and online for full-time students, completed in the first year, at the beginning of the doctoral studies, but recoverable in subsequent years. For part-time students, it will also be 36 hours but can be completed throughout the entire training period, with a minimum of 10 hours of training during the first year.
Justification of the activity (skills to be acquired by students): The objectives of the activity are: – Ability to promote scientific, social, artistic, or cultural advancement in academic and professional contexts within a knowledge-based society. CB16 – Systematic understanding of a field of study and mastery of the research skills and methods related to that field. CB11
Learning outcomes: Demonstrate appropriate use of methodological and practical resources in the search for scientific information, in obtaining, processing and analyzing data and in presenting results.
Contents: The doctoral programme itself will design and offer courses on basic research methodology for the main lines of research. The offer will include approximately 50 % more hours than those required to promote optionality, according to the scientific interests of each doctoral student. In some of the lines, the courses may be substituted by activities organised externally to the programme, the validity of which must be determined by the Academic Committee.
Planning. Temporary organization of the activity for full-time or part-time students: Each student, guided by his/her tutor and director, will select and schedule the courses to be taken according to his/her needs and availability.
Planning. Human resources for its development: The courses organized by the program will be taught primarily by its own teaching staff, although the participation of guest teachers will be encouraged, especially from those universities with which collaboration agreements are maintained.
Planning. Material resources for its development: The offer of this type of courses by USAL guarantees the availability of the necessary material resources for its delivery. In courses offered by other universities or organizations, no additional material resources are required other than those provided by their organizers.
Observations: This activity is mandatory.
Adaptation procedure: The teaching staff in charge of teaching the courses will give the students, once they have completed them, a grade of pass or fail in each of them, through a continuous assessment system that will take into account attendance, active participation and other complementary assessment procedures that may be enabled according to the nature of each subject. Although these are face-to-face courses, a system of make-up work will be enabled for those who can clearly demonstrate the impossibility of attending during the scheduled period. If a student obtains a grade of fail in one or more of the chosen courses, they must repeat them in successive years until they pass them.
Mobility:
Language of instruction: Spanish/English/Language of host country

(2) Facilitate the completion of stays of more than one month and not more than six (except in those cases where there is a prior agreement to carry out part of the Thesis at the host research centre) in foreign research centres of recognised prestige, carrying out research work that is relevant to their doctoral training and the development of the doctoral thesis and allows enriching the lines of research of the different research groups integrated in the programme.
Planning. Temporary organization of the activity for full-time or part-time students: The Academic Committee will promote that all doctoral students in the program can carry out at least one of each of the training activities that require mobility grants, specifically: (1) In collaboration with the tutor and/or director of each doctoral student, it will facilitate their attendance, from the second year and until the end of their doctoral training period, to a congress or scientific meeting, as well as to courses that may be of interest for their training. (2) It will keep updated the information on existing collaborations between the Doctoral Program and other research groups that cover the different research lines of the program and the specific training interests of each doctoral student and make it possible for all of them to opt for a stay throughout their doctoral training period. (3) The assignment of exchanges and mobility activities in each case will be carried out in the order of request to the Academic Committee, one per student in each of the possible modalities: attendance at conferences and presentation of communications, attendance at courses and research stays. (4) The temporary organisation of mobility for each student will be proposed by agreement between the doctoral student and his/her thesis tutor and/or director. When it comes to programming a research stay, the programming must be reflected in a mobility plan related to the research plan in which the objectives, duration, research centre and the researcher responsible at said centre are specified. (5) In all cases, the Academic Committee will evaluate the mobility proposal of each doctoral student, within its plan of activities and will decide on its approval with or without modifications.
Planning: Human resources for its development: The inter-university nature of the programme provides a natural framework that guarantees the mobility of students between the different participating universities, so that the realization of this training activity does not require specific human resources other than those of the Programme itself. In addition, the CAPD will promote the signing of new mobility agreements for doctoral students and teaching staff with other entities and institutions. These agreements will generally be formalised once the activity of the doctoral programme begins. Likewise, there are other ways that promote these mobility actions, such as agreements between different research groups, mobility programmes subsidised by public or private entities, such as those of the Ministry of Education within the call for Mention towards Excellence, European/International Mention, or any other included in the Framework Programme of the European Union.
Planning. Material resources for its development: As mobility aids intended to promote training activities of types 3 and 4, there are two programs of the Vice-Rectorate of Research of the University of Salamanca, managed through the
Research Management Agency
. The rest of the universities also have research support services: University of La Laguna, University of A Coruña, University of Santiago de Compostela, University of Valladolid, University of Valencia (a) Mobility of Research Staff and (b) Dissemination of Results. In addition, all research groups allocate part of their project budget to partially finance the attendance of researchers to scientific conferences and meetings, where they can communicate and present their results. In order to encourage doctoral students to carry out at least one stay during their doctoral training period, the Doctoral Program will participate in calls for mention towards excellence or other international, national or regional calls that contemplate and facilitate the subsequent participation of doctoral students in calls for mobility grants.
Assessment and control procedure: Mobility will not imply an assessment or control different from that established in each of the activities that require it, so in each case the procedures described for training activities 3, 4 or 6 will be applied, as appropriate.
Observations: This activity is voluntary.
Internships at other research centers
Number of hours: 520 hours.
Description:
Duration of the activity: Three months (13 weeks, 40 hours per week: 520 hours) of stay at a foreign university in order to meet the minimum requirement for obtaining the International Mention. Student stays at the different universities participating in the agreement will also be encouraged.
Justification of the activity (skills to be acquired by students): – Operate in contexts where there is little specific information CA01 – Work both in a team and independently in an international or multidisciplinary context CA04
Learning outcomes: Demonstrate the ability to integrate and work in other groups. Exchange knowledge and research results. Express oneself in another language.
Contents: Mobility stay in a national or foreign Center, belonging to another University or Research Entity of recognized prestige.
Planning. Temporary organization of the activity for full-time or part-time students: Each student, guided by his/her tutor and director, will select and decide the host center for his/her research stay and the most appropriate time to carry it out. Together with the host group, the objectives to be pursued with the stay will be defined and established and the work plan to be carried out will be defined.
Planning. Human resources for its development: In principle, this training activity does not require human resources other than those that must be provided by the group with which prior collaboration has been established and the corresponding mobility actions defined.
Planning. Material resources for its development: This activity will be developed within the mobility programs established by the University.
Observations: This activity is voluntary.
Evaluation and control procedure: A report of the activities carried out and the certificate of the person in charge of the group in which the stay was carried out will be presented.
Adaptation procedure: A report on the activities carried out and a certificate from the person in charge of the group in which the stay was carried out must be submitted.
Mobility
