Competencies

Competencies are the set of knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be acquired by students throughout the degree, aimed at preparing them for the exercise of professional activities.

  • (1) Know and understand the morphology, physiology, pathology and behavior of people, both healthy and sick, in the natural and social environment.
  • (2) Know and understand the sciences, models, techniques and instruments on which Physiotherapy is based, articulated and developed. 
  • (3) Know and understand the methods, procedures and physiotherapeutic actions, aimed both at the actual therapy to be practiced in the clinic for re-education or functional recovery, as well as at carrying out activities aimed at promoting and maintaining health.
  • (4) Acquire appropriate clinical experience that provides intellectual abilities and technical and manual skills; that facilitates the incorporation of ethical and professional values; and that develops the capacity to integrate acquired knowledge so that, upon completion of their studies, students will know how to apply it to specific clinical cases in hospital and outpatient settings, as well as to actions in primary and community care.
  • (5) Assess the patient's functional status considering physical, psychological and social aspects.
  • (6) Diagnostic assessment of physiotherapy care according to standards and with internationally recognized validation instruments.
  • (7) Design the physiotherapy intervention plan taking into account criteria of adequacy, validity and efficiency.
  • (8) Execute, direct and coordinate the physiotherapy intervention plan, using appropriate therapeutic tools and taking into account the individuality of the user.
  • (9) Evaluate the evolution of the results obtained with the treatment in relation to the established objectives.
  • (10) Prepare the physiotherapy care discharge report once the proposed objectives have been met.
  • (11) Provide effective physiotherapy care, providing comprehensive assistance to patients.
  • (12) Intervene in the areas of health promotion, prevention, protection and recovery
  • (13) Know how to work in professional teams as a basic unit in which professionals and other personnel of healthcare organizations are structured in a unidisciplinary or multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary manner.
  • (14) Incorporate the ethical and legal principles of the profession into professional practice as well as integrate social and community aspects into decision-making.
  • (15) Participate in the development of physiotherapy care protocols based on scientific evidence, promoting professional activities that boost research in physiotherapy.
  • (16) Carry out physiotherapeutic interventions based on comprehensive health care that involves multi-professional cooperation, integration of processes and continuity of care.
  • (17) Understand the importance of updating the knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes that make up the professional competencies of the physiotherapist.
  • (18) Acquire clinical management skills that include the efficient use of health resources and develop planning, management and control activities in the healthcare units where physiotherapy care is provided and its relationship with other health services.
  • (19) Communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing, with users of the health system as well as with other professionals.

  • (E7) Understand the pathophysiology of diseases, identifying the manifestations that appear throughout the process, as well as the medical and surgical treatments, primarily in their physiotherapeutic and orthopedic aspects. Identify the changes produced as a result of physiotherapy intervention. Encourage patient and family participation in the recovery process.
  • (E8) To understand and identify the psychological and physical problems arising from gender-based violence in order to train students in prevention, early detection, care, and rehabilitation of victims of this form of violence.
  • (E9) Identify the concept, evolution, and foundations of physiotherapy in its scientific and professional aspects. Understand the general theory of functioning, disability, and health and its international classification, as well as physiotherapy intervention models and care practices. Understand and apply the theoretical foundations and development of physiotherapy methods and procedures.
  • (E10) Be able to assess the patient's/user's functional status from a physiotherapy perspective, considering their physical, psychological, and social aspects. Understand and apply manual and instrumental assessment methods and procedures in physiotherapy and physical rehabilitation, as well as the scientific evaluation of their usefulness and effectiveness.
  • (E11) Understand, design, and apply the various general physiotherapy intervention modalities and procedures: massage therapy, electrotherapy, magnetotherapy, hydrotherapy, balneotherapy, climatotherapy, thalassotherapy, thermotherapy, cryotherapy, vibration therapy, phototherapy, pressotherapy, therapies derived from other physical agents, as well as fundamental aspects of occupational therapy and other therapies related to the field of physiotherapy. Encourage the participation of the user and family in the recovery process.
  • (E12)  Identify the most appropriate physiotherapy treatment for different health disorders, prevention, and promotion processes, as well as for growth and development. Identify the patient/user's situation through a physiotherapy care diagnosis, planning interventions, and evaluating their effectiveness in a collaborative work environment with other health science professionals. Know and apply good clinical practice guidelines.
  • (E13) Understand and perform specific methods and techniques related to the musculoskeletal system (including manual therapies, joint manipulative therapies, osteopathy, and chiropractic), neurological processes, the respiratory system, the cardiovascular system, and static and dynamic alterations. Specific methods and techniques that take into account the implications of orthopedics in physiotherapy, reflex therapeutic techniques, as well as other alternative and/or complementary methods and techniques whose safety and effectiveness have been demonstrated according to the state of scientific development.
  • (E14)  Understand ergonomic and anthropometric principles. Analyze, program, and apply movement as a therapeutic measure, promoting patient/user participation in the process.
  • (E15)  Understand the fundamental concepts of health and the role of the physiotherapist in the healthcare system. Promote healthy lifestyle habits through health education. Understand the factors related to health and the problems associated with physiotherapy in the areas of Primary Care, Specialized Care, and Occupational Health. Know the Spanish Healthcare System and the aspects related to the management of health services, primarily those in which physiotherapy is involved. Know and analyze the management processes of a Physiotherapy service or unit. Know and Apply quality mechanisms in the practice of physiotherapy, adhering to recognized and validated quality criteria, indicators, and standards for proper professional practice. Understand the ethical and legal foundations of the profession in a changing social context. Understand professional ethical and deontological codes.
  • (E16)  Pre-professional internships in the form of independent clinical rotations with a final competency assessment in health centers, hospitals, and other healthcare settings will integrate all the knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes, and values acquired in all subjects. All professional competencies will be developed, enabling effective physiotherapy care.
  • (E17)  Presentation and defense before the University Court of a final degree project, consisting of an exercise integrating the training content received and the acquired skills.
  • (E18)  Demonstrate the ability to systematically prepare and complete the complete Physiotherapy Medical History, which adequately and effectively records all steps followed from the patient/user's reception to the Physiotherapy discharge report.
  • (E19)  Demonstrate the ability to determine diagnosis in physiotherapy care, in accordance with internationally recognized standards and international validation instruments. This competency includes prioritizing the patient's/user's needs to prioritize those most critical to the recovery process.
  • (E20)  Demonstrate the ability to execute, direct, and coordinate the Physiotherapy Intervention Plan, adhering to the principle of individuality and utilizing the therapeutic tools of Physiotherapy, that is, the set of methods, procedures, actions, and techniques that, through the application of physical means, cure, recover, habilitate, rehabilitate, adapt, and rehabilitate individuals with deficiencies, functional limitations, disabilities, and handicaps; prevent disease and promote health for those seeking to maintain an optimal level of health.
  • (E21) Demonstrate the ability to establish and apply therapeutic physical means in the treatments provided to users of all specialties of medicine and surgery where the application of the aforementioned means is necessary..
  • (E22) Demonstrate the ability to plan, establish, and implement exercises, postures, and activities in health prevention programs.
  • (E23) Demonstrate the ability to incorporate scientific research and evidence-based practice into professional culture.
  • (E24) Demonstrate the ability to establish lines of research within the scope of the profession's competencies and disseminate them within the group research.
  • (E25) Demonstrate the ability to participate in the environmental research group.
  • (E26) Demonstrate the ability to disseminate research work and its conclusions within the scientific and professional community.
