Completing internships in companies, organisations and institutions is mandatory for official degree programmes taught at the University of La Laguna and provides students with an insight into real-life situations, complementing the training received with the reality of the working world.
They constitute an activity of a formative nature, carried out by university students and supervised by universities, the objective of which is to allow students to apply and complement the knowledge acquired in their academic training, promoting the acquisition of skills that prepare them for the exercise of professional activities, facilitating their employability and fostering their entrepreneurial capacity.
Academic internships may be carried out in collaborating entities/companies, such as companies, institutions, public/private entities, etc.
The external internships in the Degree in Nautical Science and Maritime Transport present certain singularities with respect to the general configuration in other Degrees taught at the University of La Laguna, complying with the provisions established in the verified degree report.
Specifically, external internships are included as another training aspect within a set of subjects that include, in turn, theoretical and eminently practical activities with the resources of the University of La Laguna itself, such as navigation simulators, machines, radio communications, the workshop classroom and the training ship.
The subjects with external internship content are located in the curriculum between the second quarter of the third year and the first quarter of the fourth year, giving continuity to training closely linked to the maritime environment, encouraging students to connect their knowledge with the professional environment. In the third year subjects, training in the corresponding simulators is emphasized to a greater extent, while in the fourth year subjects greater emphasis is placed on training received through the training ship and internships in maritime-port companies.

For the realization of the external part of the internship, the University of La Laguna, through the External Internships Office, has signed agreements with different companies in the maritime port sector.
