Social work aims to intervene and assess social needs in order to promote change, resolve problems in human relations, and strengthen the freedom of society to increase well-being and cohesion. This work utilizes theories of human behavior and social systems and applies specific methodology that integrates case, group, and community social work. Social work intervenes at the points where people interact with their environment.
From the above, it follows that the profession of social worker consists of helping people strengthen their capacities to resolve individual and collective social problems; working to protect people, especially those unable to do so for themselves; promoting the incorporation of socially excluded, vulnerable, and at-risk groups into full citizenship; raising awareness among people so they can participate and commit to promoting the social well-being of their communities; promoting mediation, gender and disability equality, respect, and intercultural dialogue as a means for the mutual enrichment of individuals and communities.
