'Full Speed Ahead with the Symphony' Concert Series: Dances of Galánta

April 16 - 8:00 pm - 9:15 pm

Thanks to the collaboration of the DISA Foundation, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra returns to the Paraninfo of the University of La Laguna for the 2025-26 season. This year we're going all out with the Symphony: three concerts of just over an hour each, featuring hosts who are opening new doors to symphonic music and top-tier guest conductors. A dynamic format, clear context, and great music. The third concert features art historian Miguel Ángel Cajigal.

Dances of Galanta

  • F. LISZT — Hungaria, symphonic poem No. 9, S. 103
  • Z. KODÁLY — Dances of Galánta

Under the direction of El Barroquista, the pseudonym of Miguel Ángel Cajigal, who works as an art historian and cultural commentator, this concert by Ariane Matiakh and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra invites a listening experience that also considers context, history, and imagination. His perspective, adept at bridging knowledge and enjoyment, will guide us through two ways of evoking Hungary: the romantic and expansive spirit of Hungary, by Liszt, and the rhythmic, popular and orchestral energy of the Dances of Galanta, by Kodály.

Miguel Ángel Cajigal is an art historian, curator, and popularizer. He is a member of ICOMOS and ICOM. He received the 2022 EDE Award for Best Digital Educator (History). He contributes to Radio Galega, Onda Cero, and TVE.

Ariane Matiakh is dFrench conductor, principal conductor of the Württemberg Philharmonic in Reutlingen. Guest conductor with orchestras such as Bamberg, Radio France, Rotterdam, BBC, and opera houses in Hamburg, Covent Garden, La Monnaie, and Berlin. Grammy-nominated for her Capriccio discography.
