The European alliance of universities STARS EU (Strategic Alliance for Regional Transition) continues its visibility campaign at the University of La Laguna in order to bring the opportunities it offers to students, teaching staff and research and administration staff from the different centres. On this occasion, the initiative took place at the Faculty of Pharmacy, where the main lines of action of the alliance were presented, the work developed in these almost two years of activity and the possibilities it offers to the university community.
The objective of this campaign, which has been developed in different centers of the ULL ─the Faculty of Law, the Biology Section (Faculty of Sciences) or the Higher School of Engineering and Telecommunications (ESIT)─ is to publicize the opportunities that STARS EU offers in the academic and scientific field. Among these possibilities are international mobility programs, joint research projects, interdisciplinary training and innovation actions that have an impact on regional development.
Joint research
During the talk, the assistant professors were able to learn first-hand about the research projects that STARS EU has launched, such as the so-called STARS-Health, focused on improving the digital skills of the elderly in health management, and in which the ULL participates together with other partners of the alliance. This was remarked by the ULL professor and co-leader of the Thematic Interest Group (TIG) Healthy Ageing, Ángel Acebes Vindel.
In his speech, Acebes highlighted the advantages of joint research within the framework of the alliance, in addition to the «important» role that these consortia have in the field of European higher education ─there are currently 65 throughout Europe that bring together almost 600 universities─ as explained in the talk by the STARS EU technical staff.
The meeting also served to explain the next calls that the ULL will open for mobilities associated with the Blended Intensive Training Programs, BIPs (BIPs), associated with the Erasmus + program. This teaching modality allows students to carry out short stays at the universities of the alliance, with which to complete the previous online training.
Innovative academic proposals
This call, which will be released soon, is joined by the Call for innovative academic offers launched by STARS EU, which is open to the participation of ULL teaching staff until 30 October. It is about proposing innovative initiatives disponibles en inglés, o traducibles fácilmente, que puedan integrarse en el plan de estudios europeo de la alianza, en distintos niveles de programas de grados o másteres.
With these actions, the University of La Laguna reinforces its commitment to internationalisation, inter-university cooperation and regional transformation, three of the fundamental pillars that underpin the work of STARS EU.
