A real-time biological activity detection system based on liquid chromatography, characterized by the use of: a) a physiological buffer as the mobile phase, b) a fluid pump, c) an injector, d) a column compatible with the pH and salt composition of the buffer, e) a transducer, f) one or more organ or tissue preparations (which will act as biological detectors or sensors), and g) a measurement system. The equipment is accompanied by other elements such as thermostatic control systems.
The proposed system allows for the real-time separation and analysis of a complex water-soluble sample and the determination of whether any of the products emanating from the column possess biological activity. If of interest, the identification/purification effort would be restricted to that fraction.
