Photoelectrocatalysts formed by nanoparticles of transition metal compounds (carbides and oxides) with core-shell morphology.
The core, made of transition metal carbides, provides good electrical conductivity to the material as well as excellent electrocatalytic activity towards the reaction of interest.
The shell, formed by the oxide of the same transition metal as the core, provides the photosensitizing capacity of the material due to the semiconductor properties of this chemical phase.
– Renewable energies. Generation of molecular hydrogen.
– Reduction of pollutants. Reduction of CO2, methylene blue, organic compounds in general.
– Low synthesis cost.
– High electrical conductivity.
– High photocatalytic activity across a wide range of wavelengths (UV and visible).
– Possibility of varying the photo/electro effects by varying the nature of the transition metal and the size/thickness of the core/shell.
