This patent describes a closed-loop industrial process for the production of cochineal that guarantees a constant supply of standard-quality cochineal, offering a minimum carminic acid content of approximately 23% in the product. The process comprises the stages of planting the host plant, harvesting it, infesting it with the beneficial insect, its growth and maturation, insect harvesting, screening, and subsequent processing; and is based on the use of a greenhouse for insect development, controlling the entire growth process through the regulation of relative humidity, temperature, radiation, and lighting.
