Use of laurequinone as an antiparasitic

The present invention relates to the use of the compound laurequinone as a medicament, particularly as a medicament for human or veterinary use, and more specifically in the field of parasitic diseases. Furthermore, the present invention relates to methods for obtaining said compound. Laurequinone exhibited good activity against promastigotes of Leishmania amazonensis, showing a low median inhibitory concentration (IC50) and a low median cytotoxic concentration (CC50).

Use in the treatment of Leishmaniasis.

Better selectivity compared to other conventional treatments such as Miltefosine.
