Ongoing climate change will impose an average temperature increase of 2 to 3°C by 2050 and a decrease in the lifespan and availability of water resources, which could reach 301,000 tons in Macaronesia. These changes will have a significant impact on agriculture, leading to a loss of crop productivity and substantial economic losses. These scenarios present the Macaronesian Regions with the enormous challenge of developing actions that promote the adaptation of agriculture and key regional crops to the new climatic conditions and scenarios, ensuring economic activity, maintaining productive potential, and guaranteeing food security. The aim is to address these challenges by developing natural products and solutions that protect crops in situations of water scarcity, and this initiative is aligned with the strategic agronomic and bio-sustainability areas of the RIS3 specialization.
