Science, history and philosophy: geometries of thought

Tribute to José Montesinos Sirera

This book compiles the proceedings of the three-day Congress "Science, History, and Philosophy: Geometries of Thought," held in April 2025 at the University of La Laguna in homage to the intellectual and personal life of Professor José L. Montesinos Sirera. The first part brings together the opening speeches of the congress, which emphasized the need to open, within the academic framework, interdisciplinary paths that promote the advancement of human knowledge from a multiplicity of informed perspectives and through dialogue between the Sciences and the Humanities. The second part includes nineteen of the lectures given, demonstrating the participation of leading speakers who wished to acknowledge—from their own fields of research—Professor Montesinos's intellectual trajectory. The range of topics covered in the presentations is broad and forms a corpus that allows for the convergence of perspectives. Some address the contributions of figures who are essential to history or decisive in shaping how reality and our place in the world have been understood; Others reflect on the causes, effects, and needs that have led to paradigm shifts over time; still others focus on the need to put into action the deep knowledge of experts to interpret, understand, and act on the complex and urgent challenges of living in today's world.
