In order to inform potential students about the doctoral programme and the enrolment process, the websites of the ULL and the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias are used as a priority. Additionally, this information is published on the website of the Sociedad Española de Astronomía (SEA) and posters are published and distributed in the different Spanish universities.

This entry profile is consistent with the access criteria established in RD99/2011.
According to the Regulations for official doctoral studies at the University of La Laguna, published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands number 17 on Friday, January 25, 2013, Chapter II states:
Article 5.- Requirements for access to official doctoral studies.
1. In general, to access an official doctoral programme it will be necessary to be in possession of official Spanish Bachelor's degrees, or equivalent, and a Master's degree. 2. Likewise, those who are in any of the following situations may access:
a) Be in possession of an official Spanish university degree, or one from another country that is part of the European Higher Education Area, which qualifies for access to a Master's degree in accordance with the provisions of article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, of October 29, and have passed a minimum of 300 ECTS credits in the set of official university studies, of which at least 60 must be at Master's level.
b) Be in possession of an official Spanish degree of Graduate, the duration of which, in accordance with Community law, is at least 300 ECTS credits. These graduates must take the compulsory training courses referred to in article 6.2 of this regulation, unless the study plan of the corresponding degree includes research training credits equivalent in training value to the research credits from Master's studies.
c) University graduates who, after obtaining a place in the corresponding entrance exam for specialized health training positions, have successfully completed at least two years of training in a program to obtain an official degree in one of the specialties in Health Sciences.
d) Possession of a qualification obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems, without the need for its homologation, after verification by the university that it accredits a level of training equivalent to that of the official Spanish Master's degree and that it qualifies the applicant for access to doctoral studies in the country that issued the qualification. This admission will not imply, in any case, the homologation of the previous qualification held by the applicant or its recognition for purposes other than access to doctoral studies.
e) Be in possession of another Spanish Doctorate degree obtained in accordance with previous university regulations.
f) Doctoral students who have started their doctoral programme in accordance with previous university regulations may access the doctoral studies regulated by Royal Decree 99/2011, of 28 January (BOE No. 35, of 10 February), after being admitted to the corresponding official doctoral programme, in accordance with the provisions of this regulation.
g) Graduates, Architects or Engineers who hold the Diploma of Advanced Studies, obtained in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree 778/1998, of April 30, or who have achieved the research sufficiency regulated by Royal Decree 185/1985, of January 23, may be admitted to the new doctoral studies.
Article 6.- Admission criteria.
1. The academic committees of the doctoral programmes, referred to in Article 14 of these regulations, may establish additional requirements and criteria for the selection and admission of students to the corresponding doctoral programme.
2. Admission to doctoral programmes may include the requirement of specific training supplements, in accordance with the admission profiles established for the corresponding doctoral programme.
3. For the purposes of public prices and the granting of scholarships and study grants, these specific training supplements will be considered doctoral level training and their development will not count towards the credit limits established in article 5.2 of this regulation.
4. The admission requirements and criteria referred to in section one, as well as the design of the training supplements established in section two of this article, shall be recorded in the verification application report referred to in article 35.
5. Admission systems and procedures must include, in the case of students with special educational needs arising from disabilities, appropriate support and advisory services, which will assess the need for possible curricular adaptations, itineraries or alternative studies.
The body responsible for admitting PhD students is the Academic Committee.
In accordance with the Regulations for Official Doctoral Studies at the University of La Laguna published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands number 17 on Friday, January 25, 2013, in its article 6.1 the academic committees of the doctoral programs may establish additional requirements and criteria for the selection and admission of students to the corresponding doctoral program.

In order to admit students with Master's degrees in experimental or technical sciences who have not completed a Master's degree in Astrophysics, an access module consisting of 18 teaching credits is available.
This access module is based on the credits taught in the Master's Degree in Astrophysics.
These training complements will be described in section 3.3.
Body in charge of the admission process:
The body in charge of the Admission Process is the Academic Committee of the Master's and Doctorate in Astrophysics of the University of La Laguna.
Its composition is as follows:
Part-time students
We follow the ULL regulations regarding the admission of part-time students. In article 7 of the Regulations on official doctoral studies at the University of La Laguna, published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands number 17 on Friday, January 25, 2013, in its Chapter II, it is stated:
Article 7.- Dedication regime.
1. The studies regulated by these regulations may be carried out on a full-time or part-time basis.
2. By definition, it is understood that all students who enroll in an official doctoral program will do so full-time.
3. To be considered a part-time PhD student, The corresponding application must be submitted in the manner and within the time limits specified established for this purpose, justifying the impossibility of carrying out these studies on a full-time basis for reasons of work activity, special educational needs, family care needs, high-performance or high-level athletes, as well as those others that are contemplated in the ULL's permanence regulations or, where appropriate, in the regulations that develop them. These applications will be resolved before the period established for registration in doctoral studies by the academic committee of the corresponding doctoral program. Against this resolution may be submitted.
4. Doctoral students may request a change in their work schedule for justified reasons. The academic committee of the official doctoral programme will issue a report in this regard authorising or denying such a change. An appeal against this decision may be submitted to the Rector within one month of its notification.
Students with educational needs derived from disabilities
Admission systems and procedures include, in the case of students with special educational needs arising from disability, appropriate support and advisory services, which will assess the need for possible curricular adaptations, alternative itineraries or studies.
The Academic Committee of the Master's and Doctorate will be responsible for guiding these students, as well as assigning them a personal tutor who will advise and help them with the different procedures as well as with the specific needs arising from their disability.
The Academic Committee will also assess the need for possible curricular adaptations, itineraries or alternative studies to complement the training of the student with a disability.
Maximum number of admitted students and Admission Scale
The maximum number of new students admitted to the Doctoral Program is 50 students.
In the event that there are more than 50 applications for admission that meet the admission requirements, the following scale is established:
1) 5 points for academic record.
2) 3 points for a master's degree in Astrophysics.
3) 2 points for a master's degree in experimental or technical sciences.
4) Up to 2 points for other merits: scholarships, awards, courses taken, etc.
In order to admit students with master's degrees in experimental or technical sciences who have not completed a master's degree in Astrophysics, an access module consisting of 18 teaching credits is available.

The contents, learning outcomes, training activities, assessment systems, etc., of these training complements are those included in the documentation of the Master's Degree in Astrophysics of the University of La Laguna.

These training supplements will be carried out by the student if necessary and always after the student is admitted to the program.
