Each doctoral thesis must be supervised by a thesis supervisor who must be a doctoral researcher meeting the minimum requirements established in the Regulations for Official Doctoral Studies of the University of La Laguna and who will be assigned by the academic committee. Unless there is a justified reason, this role will fall to the person who endorsed the application for admission.
The doctoral student may not be assigned as thesis director by a professor who has a marital relationship or a de facto relationship similar to that of a doctoral student, or a blood relationship within the fourth degree, or a relationship within the second degree, with the doctoral student.
It is possible to have up to two additional supervisors, provided it is requested and approved by the academic committee, when there are academic or thematic interdisciplinary reasons, or when the programs are developed in national or international collaboration. In particular, the third supervisor must be very well justified and is especially required in cases where the thesis is carried out under a joint supervision agreement, where an industrial designation is being sought, where an agreement requiring it has been signed, or, exceptionally, in other cases, provided it is duly justified by its multidisciplinary nature.
The supervision of doctoral theses will be recognized as part of the teaching and research dedication of faculty members, in accordance with the regulations established by the University of La Laguna. Specifically, the hiring regulations consider the supervision of doctoral theses as an asset.
Thesis supervision
The academic committee will assign the doctoral candidate a tutor, who may or may not be the same person responsible for directing the thesis.
The supervisor must be a PhD researcher, preferably a full-time faculty member and researcher at the University of La Laguna. The supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the doctoral student's interaction with the academic committee.
