  • The syllubus of our degree in Tourism (GTUR) has been designed so that its objectives recognise human rights (gender equality, democracy and peace, and full and equal access for those suffering from a disability) and adhere to Tourism's professional code of ethics and best practice. These objectives should be established based on the characteristics and activities of tourism; as these are in a continuous state of flux they require our constant attention to ensure quality and sostainability in what is a competative context, and one that is subject to the pressures of internationalization. Our objectives include:
  • Directors of companies and tourism agencies
    General skills
    • Understand the dimensions of tourism: spatial, social, cultural, political, labour and economic; the administration and management of tourist entities; the legal framework, the political and administrative structures of tourist activities; how destinations work, tourist structures and their business sectors
    • Know customer services and tourist agents, tourist accommodation, restaurant business and the tourist intermediation companies; management of the financial resources of tourism; management of a sustainable tourist territory
    • Assess tourist potential and prospective analysis of exploiting it. Define commercial objectives, strategies and policies for tourism. Identify and manage tourist spaces and destinations. Analyse the impacts generated by tourism. Analyse and synthesise economic and equity information of tourist organisations. Detect needs and plan tourist infrastructures and facilities

    Specific skills
    • Know Spanish, English and German (grammar and pronunciation)
    • Know the impact of tourism on the economy, tourist markets; tourism instability factors; the principles of sustainable tourism and the public administrations with competences in tourism
    • Know sources of information for tourist research; the quantitative and qualitative methods applied to tourism, investment operations, sources of financing and accounting procedures. Know the techniques for analysing tourism and the results
    • Know the basic principles of administering and managing tourist businesses; planning, organisation, directing, human resources and information and control systems. Know tourist marketing: markets, demand, consumer behaviour, segmentation, product design, setting prices, communication and distribution. Know the tourist distribution and intermediation companies and the relations between their operational areas
    • Know the tourist service, customers and their needs (capture, care and loyalty); the players in the domestic and international tourist market; the tools for assessing the tourist potential of a resource, public tourism promotion plans and natural space management plans, quality systems and their application in tourism planning
    • Know the tourism models and their influence on the environment and culture; determining factors of location, positioning and image of a tourist destination, accommodation and restaurant businesses
    • Know the legal principles and fundamentals that affect tourism, communication and negotiation techniques, protocol and public relations
    • Know the cultural heritage and its conservation, health and safety in the workplace systems, quality standards and certificates and the application of innovative technology and domotics to tourism

Based on the characteristics and objectives of this qualification, students must be able to: demonstrate good public relations skills, the abilitiy to learn new languages, respect towards protecting the world's natural and cultural heritage sites, good personal and workplace communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team, and the ability to successfully apply taught theory
