Internships

External internships for the Double Degree in Nautical Studies and Maritime Transport and in Marine Technologies constitute a fundamental part of the students' professional training, allowing them to apply in a practical way the knowledge acquired both in the field of navigation and maritime operation and in the field of marine technologies and energy systems.

The curriculum includes a total of 78 ECTS credits of external internships, primarily distributed between the fourth and fifth years. These internships are designed to develop professional skills related to:

  • Navigation and maneuvering of the ship. 
  • Marine meteorology. 
  • Radiocommunications. 
  • Specialized maritime transport. 
  • Shipbuilding and ship theory. 
  • Operation and maintenance of marine energy facilities. 
  • Marine safety and pollution. 

The professional internships included in the itinerary are:

  • Professional internships in Meteorological Navigation. 
  • Professional practices in Maneuvering and Stevedoring. 
  • Professional internships in Astronomical Navigation. 
  • Professional internships in Special Maritime Transport. 
  • Professional internships in Naval Construction and Ship Theory. 
  • Professional internships in Radiocommunications. 
  • Professional internships in Advanced Astronomical Navigation. 
  • Mandatory professional internships in Maritime Energy Installations. 
  • Professional internships in Radioelectronic Navigation. 
  • Marine Safety and Pollution. 

These training activities allow students to acquire real experience in maritime and technical environments, as well as complete part of the training required for access to professional qualifications in the Merchant Marine. 

External internship agreements:

The external internships for the Double Degree in Nautical Studies and Maritime Transport and in Marine Technologies are carried out through collaboration agreements between the University of La Laguna and entities in the maritime and naval sector. These agreements allow students to undertake practical training in professional environments related to the Merchant Marine, navigation, marine energy facilities, and the shipbuilding industry.

The internships can be carried out in:

  • Merchant ships. 
  • Shipping companies. 
  • Port authorities. 
  • Shipyards and naval repair companies. 
  • Offshore and energy companies. 
  • Maritime organizations and entities related to maritime safety and management. 

The aim of these agreements is to facilitate the acquisition of real professional skills and complement the academic training of students.
