Internships

Internships in companies and institutions are an important training complement for future graduates to be able to face the world of work. The subject Internships consists of: 12 ECTS, which means 300 hours of student work. The Teaching Organisation Plan of the Chemistry Section contemplates the completion of the External Practices in the period between the months of February and July, both inclusive. They may also be carried out in the first semester of the course, if the student requests it to the External Practices coordinator in time and it is possible to organise it. In any case, the students must carry out:

  • 210 face-to-face hours at the center or institution where the internship will take place (approximately 7 hours a day for 6 weeks).
  • 20 hours of face-to-face classes in the Chemistry Section which include several seminars and tutorials (9 h) and participation in Chemistry dissemination activities (11 h).

Students will join the workplace on the agreed date and will carry out the training plan, in the hours previously agreed with the entity, in accordance with the work guidelines included in the training contract.

At all times during the development of the subject, the students will be assisted by a academic tutor and an external tutorThe former will ensure the normal development of the internships and that the activities assigned by the entity to the students are in accordance with the training program. The external tutor will be the person responsible for hosting, organizing the activities and informing the students about the functioning and characteristics of the entity. He or she will also supervise the activities of the students and coordinate with the academic tutor the development of the activities included in the training program.

At the end of the internship, the student must prepare and deliver to the academic tutor a final memory of the work developed.

To take this course, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Having passed 162 credits of the title. Students who have participated in mobility programmes will only be required to have passed 156 credits. However, it is recommended to have passed 90% of the subjects of the first three years in order to take the subject.
  • Not having a contractual relationship with the company or institution where the subject will be taught.

The assignment of a company to carry out the External Internships will be made taking into account the following criteria:

  • Firstly, priority will be given to students with disabilities so that they can apply for companies that ensure all universal accessibility measures.
  • Priority will then be given to students with the best academic records (only the grades for the 30 subjects from the first three years will be counted).
  • Academic planning circumstances will be taken into account to the extent possible, particularly for students enrolled in mobility programs, as well as the availability of resources and student mobility if requested in writing.
  • Companies offering scholarships will have the right to preselect students for the scholarship in the process of offering places.
  • The assignment of companies will be carried out by ensuring the selection of at least one position in each collaborating entity, ensuring that positions with different professional profiles are filled, avoiding any financial or academic disruption to students.
