Emerging lines associated with technology transfer: "Agustín de Betancourt" Program«
The “Agustín de Betancourt” program is an initiative of the Tenerife Island Council, launched in 2016, to support research groups and institutes at the University of La Laguna (ULL). Its aim is to maintain research activity with high transfer potential and to recruit human resources with technological skills geared towards developing advanced technological products and services that can impact the market and enable their commercial exploitation in sectors that are priorities for the island's economy. Following selection through a public competition, researchers hired through this program join established research groups, under the mentorship of a principal investigator, to develop their own research projects.
The following are the active research projects being developed at ITB that constitute emerging lines associated with technology transfer:
- Genetic editing service (Principal Investigator: Belinda Rivero Pérez, PhD; IP-ULL: Eduardo Salido Ruiz; Department of Basic Medical Sciences). Program «Chronic diseases related to aging» (2020-2024)
- MICROFAVAR: Development of a high-resolution, high-speed quantitative phase-contrast microscope for obtaining 3D images of biological samples (Principal Investigator: Carlos Cairós; IP-ULL: Ángel Acebes Vindel, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, ULL). Program «Neurobiology and Diseases of the Nervous System», 2020-2024.
- Development of a molecular method for the selection of human embryos of optimal quality for transfer (Principal Investigator: Rebeca González Fernández; IP-ULL: Julio T. Ávila Marrero, Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology and Genetics, ULL). Program “Genetic and Rare Diseases”, until 29/06/2023.
- Development and application of nanostructured magnetic platforms in the detection of pathogens: environmental applications, in the agri-food industry and in drinking water (Principal Investigator: Íñigo Fernández Bats; IP-ULL: José L. Glez. Mora, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, ULL). Program «Neurobiology and Diseases of the Nervous System», until 29/01/2023.
- Development of a neurorehabilitation system based on cortical stimulation using eye-tracking virtual limb control (NRET) (Principal Investigator: Rebeca Villarroel Ramírez; IP-ULL: José L. Glez. Mora, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, ULL). Program «Neurobiology and Diseases of the Nervous System», 2020-2024.
