The ITB's mission is to develop and enhance cutting-edge biomedical research, with a translational focus and in relation to the biomedical needs of its surrounding community. The ITB's mission can be summarized as combining interdisciplinary approaches from basic biomedicine, medicinal chemistry, and clinical research, aimed at discovering new approaches that facilitate the transfer of biomedical knowledge and technology to patients and industry. From its inception, the ITB has included among its structural objectives the establishment of synergies among the various regional entities dedicated to biomedical research, with the goal of consolidating a competitive, sustainable, and excellence-driven biomedical research hub in the Canary Islands. To this end, among other initiatives, it has promoted the development of multi-year strategic plans and participation, along with other regional research institutes and centers, in national and European calls for proposals to fund joint research projects and acquire large scientific equipment.
