Master's Degree in Regional Development

Justification of the title

The globalisation of the economy and local and regional development are undergoing a major transformation. Furthermore, the growing importance of knowledge and innovation in the growth and competitiveness strategies of both companies and territories, the development of clusters as competitive spatial economic environments, and sustainability as a basic component, raise the need for an articulated integration of the region in the processes of globalisation.

The aim of the Master's Degree in Regional Development is to provide advanced training with an interdisciplinary approach and an integrative vocation that enables researchers to be trained with the knowledge, competencies, abilities and skills necessary to be able to carry out substantive research tasks in the field of regional development. The teaching experience of the professors, the affinity between the proposed training content and the lines of research of the professors participating in it constitute an important guarantee for achieving the objectives of the Master's Degree.

The Master's Degree is the result of the experience gained by the professors in teaching and research carried out for more than 20 years in doctoral programs with content related to regional development. In fact, this new Master's Degree replaces a previous degree: "Master in Regional Development, Training and Employment"; and has been developed with the aim of improving the responses in the training provided to current social and economic demands. The new contents are adapted to the requirements of students, not only from the Canary Islands, but also from Latin American and African countries that have traditionally pursued postgraduate studies in the degrees that precede the new one proposed.
