Food quality and safety ensure that food reaches consumers in the right conditions for consumption. National and supranational legislation and its regulatory development have led to a level of demand on administrations and companies that requires the food sector to increasingly rely on experts in these matters to ensure compliance with regulations in these fields and, consequently, avoid the risks to public health that could arise from failure to comply with the quality and safety requirements demanded of the food industry.
Universities train professionals who traditionally deal with these subjects, such as pharmacists, veterinarians, doctors, chemists, biologists, food technologists (CTA) who have entered this field of professional practice, but who all lack certain skills that only a master's degree specialized in food quality and safety can provide.
This interdepartmental programme includes teachers whose teaching and research activities are related to different fields of food safety and quality. It also has the collaboration of professionals from the health administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, as well as representatives of the business sector with responsibilities in food inspection and quality control. Collaboration agreements with different public institutions and companies in the food sector will allow students to learn in situ the procedures, standards and techniques that are studied in the training programme and that will complement their training to meet the objectives that will allow students to obtain their Degree, the European Supplement of which will be issued in accordance with the regulations established for this purpose by the University of La Laguna.
