The University of La Laguna (ULL) is preparing to launch a new collaborative space designed to support the transition towards a circular economy by connecting academic knowledge with businesses, public authorities and civil society. Developed within the framework of the STARS EU European Universities Alliance, which brings together the ULL and eight other higher education institutions, the initiative will focus on collaborative approaches to real-world challenges in tourism, a strategic sector for the Canary Islands.
Known as CELL, the Circular Economy Living Lab, the initiative is conceived as an interregional open innovation platform that will bring together different stakeholders, disciplines and areas of expertise. Through collaboration, practical experimentation and the exchange of experiences, CELL aims to foster the joint development of responses to specific challenges and help turn ideas into practical solutions in real-world settings.
The official presentation of this new collaborative space will take place on Monday, 9 November, at 11:00 am in the Sala de Rectores at the University of La Laguna. The event will also be streamed online for the alliance’s European partners. It will introduce the initiative and its programme of activities, as well as the lines of work that will shape this new phase.
The event will also provide an opportunity to share the initial challenges and opportunities identified to support the transition towards more circular, lower-impact production and consumption models based on more efficient use of resources.
In this context, the ULL initiative brings together complementary perspectives and fosters new connections between the stakeholders involved, while embracing an interregional dimension that is central to the proposal.
The launch of this Living Lab will enable the sharing of experiences and knowledge from the different European regions where the partner universities are based, fostering collaboration and helping identify opportunities for future joint initiatives.
