Description
Padel is a racket sport, a cooperative-competitive game played on a closed rectangular court divided by a net, where the walls are part of the game, adding dynamism. It can also be played individually, one person against another, on narrower courts, such as the one available at the ULL Sports Service. The main objective
Padel was born in Acapulco, Mexico, in 1969 when a contractor named Enrique Corcuera adapted a 20x10 meter plot of land on his property, adding walls along the back and sides to prevent vegetation from encroaching on the court. A Spanish friend of Mr. Corcuera, who frequently traveled to Mexico, brought the idea to Marbella. This man, named Alfonso Hohenloe, installed a court at the Marbella club, which he owned. Many polo players from Argentina learned about padel in Marbella, and upon returning to Argentina, they began to promote it as a fun and easy game that requires inexpensive facilities. Despite being a relatively new sport with elitist beginnings, padel has become one of the most popular racket sports in Spain. Its ease of play and enjoyment are the secrets to its success. The rapid success of this sport attracted prominent figures from tennis such as Manolo Santana, who began organizing tournaments and spreading padel throughout the Costa del Sol, where several clubs began building their own courts.
Today, padel is widespread throughout the world, organized by its respective federations.
* Each person must have their own padel racket.
