Ultimate is a team sport that incorporates elements of basketball, soccer, and rugby, using a puck as the object of play. In practice, there are no referees; instead, the spirit of the game (SOTG) of each player determines the outcome. Physical contact with opponents is prohibited, and the sport is based on fair play. One of the features that makes Ultimate a unique and appealing sport is the inclusion of mixed teams, in addition to men's and women's divisions. Ultimate is known for its values and characteristics that position it as a leading example of Olympic ideals. In 2015, Ultimate was integrated into the International Olympic Committee (Olympic Ultimate), which has given a boost to its development and even allows the sport to apply for inclusion in the Olympic Games, an objective pursued by the World Rugby Football Federation (WDFD) for 2028. Ultimate has already been included among the sports participating in the World Games since 2017 (Wrocław) and Birmingham 2022, and the IOC is determined to promote the sport in the coming years. It began to be played in Spain in the mid-1990s, and currently there are more than a thousand players spread throughout the country in more than 40 teams.
The Guayota Ultimate Tenerife club was founded in early 2000 within the University of La Laguna with the aim of promoting the sport. They have worked to introduce it to schools and institutes throughout the island through workshops, the Cabildo's interscholastic competition (cabildo-dxt), and their commitment to the "Educating Through Training" program (Educar-entrenando). Beyond a strong sporting and competitive philosophy within the team, Guayota's vision of Ultimate extends far beyond the sport itself. It encompasses a healthy lifestyle and
It contributes to daily life with its values: equality, integration, fair play, effort and camaraderie, through the spirit of play.
Since 2011, Guayota has actively participated in national and international championships in Spain and Europe. Highlights of the team's record include their recent achievements, such as their participation in the 2011 World Championships held in Prague. They qualified for the European Championships in 2018, the same year they qualified for the World Championships in Cincinnati, but were unable to attend. However, in July 2022, the team finally took advantage of the opportunity to participate in the World Championships. They have also won the European Elite Invite Championship, qualified for the European Championships again, and captured 5 of the 6 national titles up for grabs each season.
Culture of effort Our guiding principle: To strive to bring out the best in everyone. To want to improve and give our all to push the team forward and grow together. "Joy lies in the struggle, in the effort, in the suffering that the struggle entails, and not in the victory itself," said Gandhi. By fighting hard in every training session, we hope that when we look back at the end of the season, we'll be left with personal and, above all, collective satisfaction.
TeamworkWe have teammates who will help us on and off the field to get through whatever we need to. We'll always look out for the common good, in every drill, in every match. We'll work twice as hard if necessary to correct any mistakes we find, pull together, help out, and keep moving forward.
