Frugality can be defined as a lifestyle characteristic of consumption, marked by the degree to which people restrict their acquisition of goods and services while using those available ingenuity to satisfy their needs and long-term goals. The purpose of this project is to analyze, from a psychosocial perspective, the relevance of frugality in describing and explaining the behaviors and social practices of the transition toward sustainability. The project aims to analyze the extent to which frugal behavior is determined by the framework of environmental values and beliefs. At the same time, it seeks to clarify the decision-making process for frugal consumption and the role that group factors play in maintaining it. Furthermore, it aims to evaluate the influence of frugal practices on people's well-being and emotional balance. To achieve these objectives, a series of six correlational and experimental investigations are proposed that allow empirical identification of the causal sequence that begins in the pro-environmental belief and value system and that results in the development of social and personal norms that strengthen proactive decision-making and a self-determined and emotionally satisfying commitment to everyday practices of austere consumption.

The purpose of this project is to analyze, from a psychosocial perspective, the importance of frugality to describe and explain the transitional behaviors and social practices towards sustainability. The aim project is to analyze what extent the frugal behavior is determined by environmental values and beliefs. At the same time, it try to clarify the decision-making process of frugal consumption and the role of group factors in its maintenance and temporal stability. It also seeks to assess what influence do Frugal practices on personal, subjective and psychological well-being, and emotional balance. To achieve these objectives, a set of six studies, both correlational and experimental, are proposed to identify empirically the sequence of causality. This hypothesized sequence begins in belief systems and pro-environmental values, carried on with the development of social and personal norms that strengthen a proactive decision, and conclude in a self-determined commitment. The final result of this sequence is the emotionally satisfying and commitment with daily practices of austere consumption.
