Transmission of the scientific production of the ULL linked to the 2030 agenda for sustainable development, through the design of visual communication: analysis and generation of products, processes and services in the lines of action for climate and underwater life

There is a high level of scientific output of excellence at the University of La Laguna (ULL). However, the effective reach of this research among the different sectors of society in which it is embedded remains a challenge. The inherently complex nature of scientific language and the usual channels of dissemination are the main causes of this gap. Communicating scientific output is fundamental for its social justification, and this is particularly relevant for research aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, since its dissemination is a key requirement for policymaking, and public acceptance of these goals determines the success of the measures adopted. Consequently, the ULL is committed to contributing to the achievement of the SDGs. Considering the unique geostrategic context in which the ULL is situated, it seems particularly pertinent to address, from this perspective, those SDGs related to life below water and climate change. The ULL has several marine ecology research groups with a high level of scientific output of excellence. In this context, visual communication design is a key tool for effectively and rigorously conveying complex scientific concepts to non-specialized audiences. The overall objective of this project is to promote the dissemination of the University of La Laguna's (ULL) scientific output to the public, focusing on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 14 (Life Below Water) and 13 (Climate Action), through visual communication design. To this end, a series of products, processes, and services will be developed, along with the foundations for establishing a structure that could potentially become a spin-off offering services aligned with those generated by this project. This will contribute to increasing scientific literacy within society, with the resulting positive consequences for various sectors (citizens, government, businesses, and universities).
