Laboratory for the evaluation of educational quality in Tenerife” (EducaTe-LAB)
Laboratory for the evaluation of educational quality in Tenerife
The overall objective of this project is to generate new knowledge through the development of innovative technological products that will help to better understand one of the most relevant social challenges in Tenerife: improving the quality and equity of the Tenerife education system. To this end, the project proposes creating a spin-off company focused on providing scientific and technical advice on educational assessment in Tenerife, enabling key educational stakeholders to improve their decision-making. To achieve these objectives, several milestones have been proposed, most notably the development of two innovative technological products (digital platforms) that will be available to the educational community. These platforms aim to provide objective and timely information on two key dimensions of education: the performance of educational institutions and the degree of equality of opportunity or equity within the Tenerife education system. This will be accomplished by combining and leveraging different sources of information, including administrative data, information provided by educational stakeholders, and big data. This project also proposes the design of two aggregates that summarize and aggregate objective information regarding the performance level of schools and the degree of equity (equality of opportunity) within the education system. The first is an Educational Performance Index (EPI) for schools, based on efficiency measurement methodologies (comparative evaluation). This index will objectively measure school performance while controlling for the level of resources available and the environment in which they operate. The second is an Educational Equity Index (EEI) that takes into account the multidimensional nature of equity and incorporates various approaches to this concept. Finally, the project proposes the design of training activities for stakeholders in the education system. These activities will facilitate the understanding and interpretation of the information contained in the platforms, enabling its effective integration into decision-making. Ultimately, this project seeks, through the development and use of information technologies, to raise awareness in society as a whole of the importance and potential of using information to carry out evaluations that promote the continuous improvement of the quality, efficiency and equity of the Tenerife education system.
