Greece and the Classical Tradition (2 volumes)

Proceedings of the II Congress of Neo-Hellenists of Ibero-America, VII Conference on Neo-Greek Literature (La Laguna, October 30-November 3, 2001)

The two volumes together comprise more than 880 pages, containing most of the 68 papers, written in Spanish or Greek, that were part of the congress program. Researchers from Spain, Greece, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Cyprus, France, Chile, and Mexico participated.

That scientific meeting served to update research on this area of knowledge in the Ibero-American sphere, something of utmost importance given the dispersion and scarce implementation of neo-Greek studies in Spain.

The first volume contains studies on Modern Greek and comparative literature, focusing on the work of contemporary Greek authors such as Alexandros Papadiamandis, Angelos Sikelianos, Grigorios Xenopoulos, and Andreas Embirikos. The second volume covers thematic areas such as myth and classical tradition; Byzantium, humanism, and historical Hispano-Greek relations; language, translation, and pedagogy.
