SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CANARY ISLANDS


The need to address current and emerging challenges holistically makes coordinated collaboration between the University of La Laguna and all stakeholders and interest groups crucial.
The Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, its eight islands and its eighty-eight municipalities have the opportunity to situate the 2030 Agenda within their realities, and to do so in a coordinated manner.

Purpose


To establish and facilitate a space for the generation of new strategic knowledge and practical solutions to the challenges posed by the implementation of the Canary Islands Agenda 2030

Moving towards sustainable development in a harmonized way in the Canary Archipelago

Specific objectives


Collaborate with local, island and regional governments in proposing solutions for the implementation of the Canary Islands Agenda 2030.

To propose and advance new avenues of applied research for sustainable development in the Canary Islands, emphasizing the principle of "leaving no one behind"“

Coordinate with other stakeholders, such as the private sector, civil society and the third sector, to jointly address proposals on sustainable development.

To disseminate knowledge about the Canary Islands Agenda 2030 and to propose concrete actions to raise awareness about sustainability.

The Innovation Centre for Sustainable Development is made up of the Department responsible for the Canary Islands Agenda 2030 in the Government of the Canary Islands and the public universities of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands: the University of La Laguna and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Their work is carried out through five working groups, specializing in the following areas:

The Innovation Centre for Sustainable Development relies on information and communication technology tools for its operation, strengthening multi-level governance and facilitating the monitoring of the principles of the 2030 Agenda, without limitations of geographical location or other possible constraints. To this end, it has a virtual platform that hosts thematic groups and includes discussion forums and a repository of knowledge products.
