Functions of the Faculty Board

The Faculty Board is, according to article 16 of the Internal Regulations, the highest representative body of the members of the Center, with its own powers in matters of organization, coordination and management.

According to the Statutes of the University of La Laguna and the aforementioned regulations, its functions are the following:

  1. To define and approve the Center's policy of action, both in terms of teaching and research, and in terms of its administrative and economic regime.
  2. To approve the teaching organization plans of the Center and to propose and report the modification of its study plans.
  3. Approve the distribution of funds allocated to the Center charged to the University's budgets.
  4. To supervise and be aware of the performance of the collegiate and individual governing bodies of the Center and its services, in accordance with the provisions of the second section of this article.
  5. To perform any other functions assigned to him by the higher governing bodies of the university or recognized by the current regulations.
  6. And, in general, the other functions provided for the collegiate bodies in article 139 of the University Statutes.

Composition

Article 15 of the Internal Regulations states:

Composition In accordance with the University Statutes, the Law Faculty Board will be composed of sixty members, respecting the following composition:

a) The Dean, who will preside over it; the Vice-Deans; the Secretary of the Faculty, who will be its Secretary; and the Administrator of the Faculty.

b) A representation of the different sectors that make up the Faculty, whose composition will be adjusted to the following percentages:

b.1) Fifty-one percent (31 members) consisting of:

b.1.1) The teaching staff with permanent ties to the University who are included in the teaching program of the Faculty, and who carry out at least 25% of their teaching activity therein.

b.1.2) The directors of those departments that teach at least 25% of their teaching load in the Faculty.

b.1.3) The rest of the permanent teaching staff needed to complete the 51% by choosing from those who provide services in the Faculty.

b.2) Nine percent (5 members) comprised of the remaining non-tenured faculty members, elected from among those listed in the Faculty's teaching program, who carry out at least 25% of their teaching activity within the Faculty. In any case, all areas of knowledge taught at the Faculty must be represented. Department Heads who teach at the Faculty but are not members of the Faculty Board will have the right to be heard at Faculty Board meetings where matters relating to the subjects they teach are discussed.

b.3) Thirty percent (18 members) of the students from the various cycles enrolled in the Faculty.

b.4) Ten percent (6 members) of the administrative and service staff who provide their services in the Faculty and in the Departments that teach at least 25% of their teaching load in the Faculty.

In the event that students and/or administrative and service staff do not fully fill the positions assigned to them on the Faculty Board, these positions will be allocated to the sector of contracted teaching staff with non-permanent contracts.

In the event that the teaching staff hired on a non-permanent basis and the administrative and service staff do not fully fill the positions that correspond to them on the Faculty Board, these positions will be assigned to the students.
